My interest in screenwriting began around 2009 when one of my martial arts teachers, Jeremy Lynch was working on a script based on the life of the legendary Bert Poe. I switched focus to writing martial arts articles shortly thereafter and went on to work with my friend Steven Resell on multiple related projects.
Several years ago, I started to consider writing about my experiences growing up in Southern California in the ’80s, ’90s and early-’00s. First, I pictured a contained short film which gradually became a feature-length spec script. While it received positive coverage on The Black List, I knew with greater knowledge of the craft I could turn it into something special. So, I shelved that project temporarily and decided to experiment with a subject that’s captured my attention since childhood: UFO’s / UAP.
I have one feature script, Ultraterrestrial and a TV pilot titled Breakaway. I consider them works-in-progress and continue to revise both as my storytelling skills increase. I’m currently working on the third act of an action-thriller along with my co-writer Dennis Blue. We’re attempting to integrate JKD, Kali, Muay Thai, and CQB with a focus on realism, as something of a counterbalance to the stylized combat that became ubiquitous after the release of the game-changing John Wick films.
